Personal, Social and Physical Education (PSPE)
At Kennedy School PSPE is taught collaboratively between specialist PE teachers, class teachers and specialist sports coaches. We are fortunate to benefit from our close proximity and relationship with HKU opposite our school and have use of the sports facilities including the swimming pool, pitches and courts throughout the year as part of our PSPE programme.
We recognise that every child's well-being is crucial for their learning. PSPE develops students’ understanding of themselves, their relationships with others, and their physical health. We focus on developing positive social skills, emotional intelligence, healthy habits and a sense of responsibility for their own well-being. The KS (PSPE) programme focuses on three interconnected areas of development:
-
Identity: This encompasses self-awareness, self-esteem, emotional intelligence, and personal responsibility. It's about understanding oneself, one's strengths and challenges, and developing a positive sense of self.
-
Interactions: This focuses on relationships with others, communication skills, collaboration, empathy, and social responsibility. Students develop an understanding of how to interact effectively with others, build positive relationships, and contribute to a community.
-
Active Living: This promotes physical health, well-being, and a healthy lifestyle. It includes physical activity, healthy eating habits, understanding the body, and making informed choices about health and well-being.
These three areas work together to support the development of the whole child. PSPE is integrated throughout the PYP curriculum and is central to developing the attributes of the IB learner profile.
